Program Note

What Will You Be This Halloween? is a dynamic, up-tempo song with a groovy piano part and catchy, syncopated melodies. The lyrics explore a variety of Halloween costume ideas, and there’s a surprise twist at the end! An optional egg shaker part encourages the singer or a friend to have fun while developing rhythm skills.

Text

What will you be this Halloween?

What will you be this Halloween?
Princess, hero, little black cat?
Will you dress up as a villain
or as a great big vampire bat?

Will you be a powerful witch
Flying high up in the air,
or maybe the gorgon* Medusa
with dozens of snakes for her hair?

Last year you went as a bumblebee
and your sister was a little mouse.
How do I know all of these things?
I am the ghost who haunts your house!

*Gorgon: powerful mythical creatures from Greek mythology. One of the most famous gorgons is Medusa, who is described as a woman with living, venomous snakes for hair and who turned anyone who looked at her to stone.
