TextThe Ghost of the Wych Elm
Have you met the ghost of the wych elm? She’s been there for oh such a long time, wearing rags and a ring and a single shoe, and she asks if you know who she is. Have you met the ghost of the wych elm? She walks out in the woods some nights, looking all around for her hand and her name! And she asks if you know who she is. Have you met the ghost of the wych elm? Was she a spy or a witch or a singer? Her skeleton bones have all disappeared. Do you know who she is? Who is the ghost of the wych elm? Wych Elm: (pronounced the same as "witch"), also called the Scotch or Scots elm, a large deciduous tree native to the British Isles. Wych comes from Old English Wice, meaning pliant or supple. The Witches' Party We’re off to the witches’ party. We’re off to dance ‘til dawn! Dance with a witch round a great fire, come to the cauldron for a potion or two, Dance with the zombies all in a long line, we’re off to dance ‘til dawn! Fly on a broomstick across the moon, have your fortune told by the skeleton queen! Dance with a witch round a great fire, unwrap the mummies and let them twist, dance with the spiders in their silvery webs, we’re off to dance ‘til dawn! Growl and Howl I’m gonna be a werewolf, Aa-ooooooo! I’ll growl! Grr! and I’ll howl! Woo! Aa-ooooooo! I’m gonna have a great big tail and sharp white teeth and claws. Rawr! I’ll scare off all the Pekingese and chase the big bull dogs! I’m gonna be a werewolf, Aa-ooooooo! I’ll growl! Grr! and I’ll howl! Woo! Aa-ooooooo! I’ll run through all the city streets and hunt for all the cats! Meow! I’ll search the caves outside of town and drive out all the bats! And when I get real hungry, I’ll something to munch. Munch! I think my baby brother will make a perfect lunch! I’m gonna be a werewolf, Aa-ooooooo! I’ll growl! Grr! and I’ll howl! Woo! Aa-ooooooo! Pekingese:"PEE-kuh-NEEZ" IPA: [,pi kə 'niz]: a breed of small dog (called "toy dogs") with long hair, originally from China. The name means "lion dog," due to the long hair! |
