coaching for Composers & Singers

I had the pleasure of working with Lisa as my vocal teacher for nearly 2 years. I have sung and performed since I was very young, but have noticed a huge growth in both my vocal and acting skills since working under Lisa’s instruction. She has taught me many new ways to practice and hone my skills outside of lessons as well as ways to improve my voice and vocal range. I feel much more confident in my storytelling abilities and my overall performing abilities after Lisa’s teachings. She thoroughly explains what she is teaching and why she is teaching it, making it easier to apply to your regular vocal routine. During my time with Lisa, I was able to add many new songs to my repertoire, choose the best songs for my voice type and acting capabilities when I had an event to perform at, get feedback on my college audition selections, and much more. I cannot recommend Lisa enough! She is patient, but will push you to your full potential and most importantly, she truly cares for her students. She has gone above and beyond to help me grow as a singer, actor, and performer. --Rylie, high school student, musical theatre major

For Singers

I coach singers on vocal technique, acting & movement, career development, and self-producing projects.

I've built my own career as a new music singer, recitalist, opera singer, and concert soloist through auditioning, networking, and creating my own performance opportunities.

It's probably not the way a classical singing career was described to you in college. That's because at a certain point, I got sick of the gatekeepers, the audition circuit, those same 4 arias being coached to death, all my extra savings going to pay for tickets, hotels, application fees, audition pianists. I figured I could invest half of that in my own projects, have a more fulfilling experience, and probably make more money doing things my own way.

As a technician, my areas of expertise are classical technique in standard repertoire and contemporary extended techniques. My teaching style is collaborative: we work together to help you discover your best singing technique and understand what you are doing to achieve it. We talk about what's really going on in the body and about the metaphors and imagery that help you elicit those responses.

I incorporate theatre-based acting and movement techniques my teaching, and offer focused coaching on acting to singers who are happy with their technique or who are working with a different teacher on that part of their artistry. I meet so many singers who feel frustrated when they need to block a song or an opera scene, or who feel self-conscious about what they are doing with their arms. I help singers get past those worries, learn tools for staging and movement that they can apply to any song, and feel empowered as well-rounded singing actors.

For Composers

As a new music mezzo-soprano and a composer myself, I know all the ins and outs of writing effective music for singers.
The truth is, most college and university programs don't teach how to write for voices. And the major orchestration textbooks barely cover singers at all!
Is it any wonder that so many composers struggle writing for voices?

It's high time you upped your Composing for Voices game--and I'm your trusty guide to all things from fach to falsetto!

That opera you're dreaming up?
Those choral sketches gathering dust on your desk?
Your voice teacher friends who always ask, do you have anything my students can sing?

Make 2021 the year you build your vocal music portfolio, expand your network of singers, conductors, poets, librettists, and get your vocal music performed.
